Former high school teacher Molly Colleen Spears is facing serious charges yet again, this time for allegedly sexually assaulting a young student. The incident in question occurred following her initial arrest three weeks prior on charges of having an inappropriate relationship with a student. The 35-year-old arts and language teacher at Barbers Hill School in Mont Belvieu, Texas, now faces two counts of sexual assault of a child and has been remanded to Chambers County Jail.
Spears had previously been indicted on February 8 for the improper relationship between an educator and a student, stemming from an incident on June 12, 2023. The details of the case reveal that Spears allegedly engaged in sexual contact and intercourse with the student and used text messages to arrange meetings. The recent allegations of sexual assault are connected to the same case, with Mont Belvieu Police Chief Jimmy Ellison confirming the situation.
Having resigned from her position at Barbers Hill High School in June 2023, Spears was taken into custody on February 11 and subsequently released on bail. However, she was re-arrested following these new allegations and her bond has now been set at $200,000. Spears’ teaching certificate has been inactive since September 2024, indicating that she is under investigation for alleged misconduct.
If convicted of the second-degree felony charges, Spears could potentially face up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine. Defense attorney Christopher L. Tritico stated that Spears is eager to confront the allegations and put the matter behind her. The Barbers Hill Independent School District has not confirmed any internal investigations, leaving unanswered questions about why Spears was not taken into custody earlier.
