The court heard that Kobi Macharia Dooly was discovered with numerous cuts in his cotbed. A mother has been accused of fatally stabbing her four-year-old son in east London just hours after picking him up from school. Kobi Dooly-Macharia was found in December 2023 with multiple knife wounds in his cot, according to Inner London Crown Court. The accused, Keziah Macharia, 43, has been charged with Kobi’s murder but has been found unfit to stand trial. Mrs. Justice Thornton is presiding over a “fact-finding hearing” to determine if Macharia caused Kobi’s death, rather than focusing on whether it constitutes murder. The court was informed that the couple, Ben Dooly and Macharia, had a son named Kobi in 2019, but their relationship deteriorated following his birth. Mr. Dooly moved out and eventually began a new relationship, leading to tension between Macharia and his new girlfriend. Macharia was last seen with Kobi at his school’s nativity play before the incident. On the night of the alleged attack, Macharia sent messages to Mr. Dooly indicating that Kobi was deceased. Bodycam footage shown to jurors depicted the scene of the incident, with Macharia in blood-stained clothing confessing to the act. She was then taken into custody and displayed signs of distress and remorse. The trial is ongoing, and further updates will be provided.
