Man in Custody for Allegedly Hiding in Closet and Killing Grandmother
A 27-year-old Maryland man, Spencer Dillon Hamilton, is facing charges after confessing to authorities that he hid in his grandmother’s bedroom closet for hours before emerging and killing her. The incident took place in Potomac, Md., and was reported to the Montgomery County Department of Police.
Hamilton walked into the Rockville City Police Station on Sunday, March 30, and informed officers that he had committed the crime. Responding officers found his grandmother, Dr. Pauline Yvonne Titus-Dillon, 87, unresponsive in her home. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hamilton was arrested and charged with first-degree murder. According to court documents, he admitted to waiting inside the victim’s closet before attacking her in the early hours of the morning. He allegedly stabbed, punched, and strangled her before attempting to clean up the scene and taking her belongings.
The motive behind the killing remains unclear, and Hamilton has been ordered to undergo a psychiatric evaluation. Dr. Titus-Dillon was a respected figure in the medical community, having graduated from Howard Medical School in 1964 and later becoming an associate dean at the institution.
Hamilton is currently held at the Montgomery County Correctional Facility and is scheduled for a court hearing on April 7. It is unknown if he has legal representation at this time.
