Shocking Recall of Mysterious Baked Goods Leaves Customers on Edge

Once again, news of a food recall has hit the headlines, causing concern among consumers. Fortunately, the affected products should have already been removed from store shelves. However, it is advisable to conduct a thorough check of your pantry or freezer to ensure that you do not have any baked goods that could potentially be impacted by the recall. The FDA has recently expanded a recall that was previously issued for 60 different types of baked items, which includes a selection of donuts sold at Dunkin’, affecting approximately two million baked goods across the United States. The reason behind the recall is the suspected presence of listeria contamination in these products.

FGF Brands, the manufacturer of the recalled baked goods, initiated the recall on January 7, 2025, due to concerns about possible listeria contamination. These products were not only sold at Dunkin’ locations but also under private labels at various grocery stores throughout the United States and Canada. Subsequently, the FDA elevated the recall status to a Class II last week. According to the FDA, consuming products classified under Class II may result in temporary or reversible health issues or have a low likelihood of causing severe health problems.

The affected baked goods were manufactured before December 13, 2024, and include items such as apple crisp donuts, French crullers, Just Baked pumpkin cake munchkins, eclairs, and more. FGF Brands emphasized that the voluntary recall was a precautionary measure prompted by non-product-related issues detected at one of its donut facilities in the U.S. Notably, no instances of listeria were found in or near any consumable items; “No donuts or surfaces in contact with food ever tested positive for listeria,” the company stated. Furthermore, they clarified that the recall had been concluded in early January and did not involve any products currently available on the market or recently sold.

For a comprehensive list of the affected products, consumers can refer to the FDA website. The CDC has cautioned that listeria infection poses a heightened risk to pregnant women, newborns, individuals over 65 years old, and those with compromised immune systems. While others can contract the infection, they are less likely to experience severe symptoms.
