A detective constable with the South West Area Command Unit of the Metropolitan Police has been dismissed without notice due to an allegation of sexual assault. Following an investigation, Kamal Baldeo was found to have engaged in non-consensual sexual activity in Brighton after meeting a woman on an online dating site. The incident prompted Sussex Police to conduct a criminal investigation in May 2021, which concluded in July 2022 with no further action being taken against Mr. Baldeo.
However, Scotland Yard, after conducting its own investigation, determined that misconduct proceedings were necessary. During the proceedings, it was established that Mr. Baldeo had breached the police standards of professional behavior. The conclusion of the hearing, which occurred on Wednesday, revealed that he had committed “discreditable conduct proven at gross misconduct”, as stated by a Metropolitan Police spokesperson.
Detective Chief Superintendent Clair Kelland, responsible for policing in south-west London, emphasized the seriousness with which such allegations are treated, despite the lack of criminal charges in this case. She commended the courage of the complainant for coming forward and highlighted the importance of a thorough investigation in such matters. The Metropolitan Police’s directorate of professional standards was cited for its commitment to upholding the highest standards, standards that Mr. Baldeo was found to have significantly violated.
