A man has been arrested on suspicion of carrying an air rifle after he was observed with what was believed to be a weapon inside a bag near York Minster. Firearms officers were dispatched to Duncombe Place after North Yorkshire Police received reports of a man with a suspected shotgun in the High Petergate area at 17:50 GMT, as stated by a force spokesperson. No individuals were threatened or harmed, and the air rifle was found to be contained within the bag. The air rifle was confiscated, and the man is currently in police custody, the spokesperson confirmed. He was located via CCTV cameras, and authorities apprehended him in Duncombe Place shortly after 18:00. Police indicated that it is standard procedure to deploy authorized firearms officers in response to reports of a weapon.
