Shocking Accusations Driver Kills NHL Star’s Brother!

The driver accused of causing the deaths of NHL star Johnny Gaudreau and his brother, Matthew, in a tragic incident in New Jersey last year is once again seeking to have the case dismissed. This time, he argues that the state concealed the fact that the brothers were intoxicated when the fatal collision occurred. Sean M. Higgins’ attorneys claimed in a recent court filing that the indictment should be thrown out because the state did not disclose to the grand jury the possibility of “contributory negligence” on the part of the Gaudreau brothers. The filing alleged that the brothers had high blood alcohol concentrations at the time of their deaths, with Johnny at 0.129% and Matthew at 0.134%, while Higgins had a BAC of 0.087%, just over the legal limit.

Although Higgins’ legal team highlighted the brothers’ intoxication, they clarified that this revelation does not absolve Higgins of responsibility. The attorneys emphasized the need for transparency in the legal proceedings, especially given the severity of the case and the significant prison sentence being sought by the state. Higgins previously turned down a plea deal and pleaded not guilty to charges including manslaughter and vehicular homicide, potentially facing up to 60 years in prison.

The tragic incident occurred as the Gaudreau brothers were cycling on a rural roadway, with their sister’s wedding scheduled for the next day where they were to be groomsmen. The family and community continue to mourn their loss, with fundraising efforts for their families and tributes honoring their memory.

At the time of the crash, Higgins declined a plea offer that could have sentenced him to 35 years in prison. Johnny Gaudreau has had a career spanning 11 seasons in the NHL, with his most recent team being the Columbus Blue Jackets. Matthew Gaudreau, who previously played for the New York Islanders, worked as a hockey coach.
