Local media reported that Ouedraogo, who is also a former Deputy Director-General of the World Trade Organization (WTO), was taken from his home on December 24 by people identifying themselves as police officers. It was emphasized that Ouedraogo could not be reached since then.

His party, Le Faso Autrement, called for his immediate release.

Ouedraogo, 70, served as Foreign Minister under former Burkina Faso President Blaise Compaore between 1994 and 1999.
