The Secret Service announced that a man who was carrying a firearm near the White House was shot and wounded by Secret Service personnel early Sunday. According to the statement, local police had alerted the Secret Service on Saturday about a potentially suicidal individual traveling from Indiana to Washington. Secret Service members located the man’s parked vehicle near 17th and F streets in Washington at around midnight, close to the Eisenhower Executive Office Building adjacent to the White House.
Upon observing an individual matching the description on foot nearby, the officers approached him. The individual then displayed a firearm, leading to an armed confrontation during which shots were discharged by the Secret Service personnel. The man was transported to a nearby hospital, and his current condition is undisclosed. Fortunately, no Secret Service personnel were harmed during the incident.
