In a recent interview, Sarah Silverman discussed the heartbreaking loss of her brother, Jeffrey, and the shocking revelation her father had shared about what had truly happened. Silverman, aged 54, spoke to Rolling Stone about her brother’s tragic death when he was just three months old, before she was born.
During the interview, the comedian revealed a surprising fact that her father, Donald, had disclosed to her after a show in 2022. He had come to Manhattan to watch her perform in her autobiographical stage production Bedwetter, which included a joke referencing her brother’s death in infancy. Afterwards, he spoke with her backstage, revealing a disturbing truth about Jeffrey’s death.
Silverman explained that Jeffrey had died while in the care of her grandparents, Max and Rose, while her parents were on holiday. Initially, it was said that Jeffrey had an accident in his crib, which led to his suffocation. However, Silverman found it peculiar that there was never any legal action taken against the crib manufacturer or any repercussions following Jeffrey’s death.
After the show that evening, Donald confessed to Silverman that he had shaken Jeffrey in a fit of rage, resulting in the infant’s death. This revelation left Silverman and her manager stunned, bringing a solemn silence to the room.
Silverman talked about her father’s tendency to reveal unexpected truths about his life, such as when he disclosed being abused by a priest at his school during a game of poker. Silverman’s new Netflix special, PostMortem, explores the deaths of her parents, Beth in 2015 and Donald in 2023. She also has two sisters, Susan and Laura, the latter of whom played her in The Sarah Silverman Program.
