NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The New Orleans Saints have secured a notable addition to their roster with the signing of former Kansas City Chiefs cornerback, Justin Reid. A reliable source revealed that Reid has inked a lucrative three-year, free-agent contract valued at approximately $31.5 million. In a separate move, the Saints have also extended tight end Juwan Johnson’s contract for three years, with a base value of $30.75 million that could potentially reach $34.5 million with performance incentives, according to agent AJ Vaynerchuk.
The individual who disclosed the details of Reid’s contract to The Associated Press did so under the condition of anonymity, as the deal has yet to be officially confirmed. Reid, a Louisiana native and seasoned NFL player with seven years of experience, previously played for the Houston Texans for four seasons before joining the Chiefs for the past three years. During his tenure with Kansas City, Reid notably appeared in three consecutive Super Bowls, clinching victory in two consecutive seasons before falling to the Philadelphia Eagles in the latest championship game held in New Orleans.
The addition of Reid, known for his versatile skill set that includes 10 interceptions, six sacks, three forced fumbles, and three fumble recoveries throughout his career, bolsters New Orleans’ defense. This signing follows the departure of former starting cornerback Paulson Adebo, who recently agreed to terms with the New York Giants in free agency.
Meanwhile, Johnson, who transitioned from a receiver to a tight end in 2022, has been a consistent presence for the Saints since entering the NFL in 2020. With 67 games under his belt, including 34 starts, Johnson has accumulated 1,622 receiving yards and 18 touchdowns.
