Russia to build crypto mining center in Africa

Russian Bitcoin mining supplier BitСluster is building a 120 megawatt (MW) data center in Ethiopia, according to an announcement on its website.

According to a press release issued yesterday, the facility will be located in the capital Addis Ababa, in the Kilinto high-voltage substation area and will consist of 30,000 square meters.

The commissioning of the new data center will take place in January 2024, BitСluster said, adding that transformers are currently connected.

The report emphasized that the engineering and technical conditions of the data center meet the needs of the most modern mining devices.

"100% of the data center's electricity comes from renewable energy sources, in particular the Grand Ethiopian Renaissance Dam, the largest hydroelectric project in Africa with a capacity of 5.15 GW," the press release said.

The Kilinto high-voltage substation's new energy infrastructure will reportedly provide "uninterrupted power supply to the facility with 99 percent uptime."

BitCluster said the scale of the project enables it to be a full-cycle service center, which saves time and money in repairing faulty devices in-house, making mining more efficient.
