Rosie O’Donnell recently opened up about her surprising connection with Lyle Menendez. The comedian and talk show host shared in a recent interview with the New York Times that she has formed a bond with Lyle, one of the Menendez brothers who were convicted of killing their parents in the late ’80s.
“He started calling me regularly from the tablet phone they have in prison,” O’Donnell, 63, disclosed in the interview published on April 12. She expressed that Lyle made her feel secure enough to “love a straight man” for the first time in her life.
In 1989, Lyle and his brother Erik were found guilty of first-degree murder in the deaths of their parents, Joe and Kitty Menendez. Their defense during the trial, as depicted in the Netflix series “The Menendez Brothers,” claimed that the killings were in self-defense, citing alleged abuse and molestation by their parents.
Despite initial concerns from some of her friends about her relationship with Lyle, O’Donnell remained unfazed by his criminal past, acknowledging that he is a convicted murderer.
