When asked by National Review’s senior political correspondent, Jim Geraghty, if she had considered a gubernatorial bid, Casey described her husband as the “Greatest of All Time” in politics, commending his unwavering principles. She acknowledged the fragility of his accomplishments and the potential for regression with a change in leadership.
One source close to Casey disclosed to The Post in February that the prospect of her running for a third DeSantis term in Tallahassee, potentially becoming Florida’s first female chief executive, has always been part of their plans. The source noted her ambition and shared vision with her husband to establish themselves as a prominent political couple. Casey DeSantis is exploring the idea of running and engaging with various individuals to weigh the possibilities.
Amidst speculation about potential opponents, President Trump has already endorsed Rep. Byron Donalds (R-Fla.) as the sole declared candidate in the GOP primary, giving him an advantage. Florida Agriculture Commissioner Wilton Simpson, who has clashed with DeSantis on immigration policies, is also rumored to be considering a run.
During the discussion, Ron DeSantis revealed that the late conservative radio host Rush Limbaugh had once suggested that Casey should pursue the governorship after witnessing her speak at an event. The couple met on a golf course at Naval Station Mayport, eventually tying the knot at Disney World in 2009, despite DeSantis’ subsequent conflicts with the entertainment giant over educational policies.
Casey DeSantis also criticized politicians who compromise their principles once in office, emphasizing the importance of standing firm on one’s beliefs.
