Roku Surpasses 90 Million Streaming Homes!

Roku achieved a significant milestone as it surpassed 90 million streaming households within the first week of the new year. This remarkable achievement marked an impressive increase compared to the third quarter when the streaming tech giant reported a total of 85.5 million streaming households. The company’s latest data, disclosed in an announcement on Tuesday, revealed that by the end of 2024, Roku had reached 89.8 million streaming households. The additional households gained in the early days of January propelled Roku over the 90-million mark in terms of streaming households.

In a statement, Roku CEO and founder Anthony Wood emphasized the company’s extensive scale within the streaming industry, underscoring that Roku boasts higher engagement levels than any other TV OS platform in the United States. Wood expressed gratitude towards Roku’s customers, partners, advertisers, and employees for their collective contribution to achieving this significant milestone. He attributed Roku’s success to the company’s unwavering focus on simplifying and enhancing the streaming experience, making it the preferred choice for millions of viewers.

Back in October, during the unveiling of its third-quarter results for 2024, Roku announced its decision to discontinue regular reporting of streaming households, deeming it an irrelevant metric. This move aligns with the trend observed in the industry, such as Netflix’s similar decision to halt quarterly subscriber figures reporting. Despite shifting away from reporting streaming household numbers, Roku affirmed its commitment to continued growth in this area. The company indicated that it will disclose key milestones, including reaching the 100 million mark, which it anticipates achieving by early 2026.

Roku highlighted the distinction between streaming household growth and platform revenue growth, noting that while a significant portion of the growth in streaming households occurs in international markets, the majority of platform revenue is presently derived from the U.S. As Roku expands its presence globally, it aims to ensure that streaming household growth aligns with revenue growth on its platform.

As Roku continues to solidify its position in the streaming industry, recent partnerships and initiatives have further enhanced its offerings. Noteworthy collaborations, such as the streaming deal with X Games for the Aspen Return and Summer 2025 Event, reflect Roku’s commitment to providing diverse and engaging content to its users. Additionally, strategic moves, including the appointment of Kristina Shepard from Roku to a new ad-sales role at NBC, underscore the company’s efforts to leverage its expertise and reach new audiences in the evolving media landscape.

Looking ahead, Roku remains focused on innovation and customer satisfaction, aiming to maintain its status as a leader in the streaming space. With a clear vision and a dedicated team, Roku is poised to continue its growth trajectory and deliver value to both its users and stakeholders.
