Robert Pattinson, known for his fearless performances on screen, may not be as keen on taking real-life risks as one might assume. In a recent candid interview with Vogue, the 38-year-old actor revealed his apprehension towards stepping outside his comfort zone when it comes to daring feats in his personal life.
During the interview, Pattinson shared his experience of pushing himself to perform a challenging motorcycle stunt as part of a new advertisement campaign for Dior Homme Parfum. Despite his prior motorcycle training for his role as Batman, the actor found himself grappling with the difficulties of executing the stunt, particularly in challenging conditions.
“I learned how to ride a motorcycle for Batman, so when Dior asked if I could ride, I said yeah,” Pattinson candidly admitted. “Well, I could sort of ride a motorcycle-ish. But even trying to even start a motorcycle in wet sand is literally impossible. I just thought, ‘I’m going to die on this.'”
Not one to shy away from self-deprecating humor, Pattinson quipped about the expectations set by the Dior brand. “If the Dior man can do this easily, well it’s very impressive,” he joked, highlighting his willingness to embrace the challenge despite his reservations.
However, the actor confessed that his on-screen bravado doesn’t always translate to real-life scenarios. “I’m very anxiety-prone, I don’t like driving fast in real life at all,” Pattinson admitted. “I can’t even parallel park! I need it to be valet-only like in Clueless. But there’s something about my pride that comes out when I’m being filmed.”
Reflecting on his upcoming film “Mickey 17,” Pattinson shared insights into his comfort zone when it comes to stunts. “It’s the kind of stunt where you’re just hurting yourself a lot. It just involves falling off ledges and being uncoordinated. It’s really in my wheelhouse,” he humorously remarked, showcasing his self-awareness and ability to navigate physically demanding scenes.
Parenthood has also played a significant role in shaping Pattinson’s perspective on risk-taking. Since welcoming his daughter with partner Suki Waterhouse in March 2024, the actor admitted to becoming more cautious, particularly in light of potential physical injuries.
“I remember people used to be like ‘oh, don’t you like the smell of babies,’ but I thought they were just smelling the baby powder,” Pattinson shared. “But then I had a baby, and I was like ‘my baby smells incredible.’ There’s something there, I can identify her. She doesn’t smell like other babies.”
As Pattinson navigates the intricacies of parenthood and continues to challenge himself in his career, the actor’s candid revelations offer a glimpse into the complexities of balancing on-screen bravado with real-life vulnerabilities. With a blend of self-deprecating humor and introspection, Robert Pattinson’s journey serves as a reminder
