It is always heart-wrenching when pet owners surrender their beloved pets to an animal shelter, as it completely disrupts the world the pets once knew. While pet surrenders are sometimes necessary due to extreme life changes, it remains difficult to convey to the pets why they are losing everything they once had. This heartbreaking reality was evident in the expressions of two sweet cat siblings who were recently given up to an animal shelter after living together for over two years. Fortunately, a compassionate foster caregiver took them in to keep them together, yet the siblings were still overwhelmed with fear, confusion, and sadness.
According to their new foster caregiver, @krazykatrealtor1, the siblings were relinquished because their previous owner developed a cat allergy after being with them for two years. While medical surrenders are always tragic, it is understandable that their owner had to make a difficult decision. Nonetheless, the cats struggled to comprehend why their family no longer wanted them and why they found themselves in a new and unfamiliar environment with a new caregiver. The female cat refused to leave her carrier, while her brother sought refuge in a cat tent, both paralyzed with fear.
Witnessing the distress of these cats was heart-wrenching. TikTok users commended the former owner for making a responsible decision given the circumstances. “As a fellow rescuer, it breaks my heart when animals are surrendered, but I would rather they be surrendered to an appropriate place rather than just dumped outside,” shared @colbytaco. “It’s better that they are surrendered vs. abandoned,” added @nicegirl22me. “I’m sad but always relieved that some people are actually considerate enough to surrender them.”
Despite the sadness of their situation, there is a glimmer of hope. Krazy Kat Realtor provided an update after the cats had spent 24 hours in her care. The female cat, Simba, showed signs of warming up to her foster mom and allowed herself to receive affection. Her brother, Max, remained cautious in his hiding spot, but with his sister’s progress, it is hoped that he will soon follow suit. While there is still a long journey ahead for these cats, they are safe, receiving care, and on the path to healing.
These feline siblings may have lost much, but they still have each other, which is a source of comfort. Krazy Kat Realtor mentioned that Simba and Max have been together since they were four months old, and their bond is now their sole stability. The future remains uncertain for them, as it is unclear whether they will be adopted together or separately.
Krazy Kat Realtor tagged the Arizona-based animal rescue organization Grateful Hearts Rescue in her posts about Simba and Max, but as of now, the cats are not listed as available for adoption. It remains unknown whether they are reserved for potential adopters, if Krazy Kat Realtor will
Simba and Max can be placed up for adoption. I intend to monitor this duo closely and encourage others to do the same. In the event that Simba and Max become available for adoption in the future, I genuinely wish for them to be adopted as a pair to ensure they do not lose their only remaining connection to family. Simba and Max, we are wholeheartedly supporting you!
