A University of Pittsburgh student disappeared during a spring break trip in the Dominican Republic, and the search for her continued on the fifth day. Sudiksha Konanki, 20, was last seen on the beach at Riu Republica Resort in Punta Cana before dawn on Thursday. Authorities, including the Dominican Civil Defense and local police, are investigating the case. Surveillance footage showed Konanki with a young man on the beach, who later left without her. Konanki, a permanent resident of the US, was vacationing with five female friends. Her family, from Loudoun County, Virginia, is actively involved in the investigation and is concerned for her safety. Konanki’s father expressed worries about her well-being and urged authorities to explore all possibilities, including kidnapping or trafficking. The State Department has issued a travel advisory for the Dominican Republic due to concerns about violent crime. The search efforts are ongoing in the coastal area of Bávaro.
