PlayStation Portal Unleashes Cloud Game Streaming Beta Updates with Gameplay Cap!

Sony is introducing a new update for PlayStation Portal users participating in the Cloud Streaming Beta. The update, scheduled for today, will bring some enhancements to user experience and overall functionality of the remote play system’s cloud capabilities.

A notable addition in this update is the ability for players to sort games in the Cloud Streaming Beta catalog. Users can now categorize games by Name, Release Date, and see which titles have been recently added to PlayStation Plus.

Furthermore, players will be able to capture gameplay during a Cloud Streaming session. Through the create menu options, users can easily take screenshots or record video clips, with support for video clips up to 1920×1080 resolution and three minutes in length.

The update also includes improvements such as gameplay pausing when accessing the PS Portal quick menu, entering rest mode via the power button, or encountering a system error message. The rest mode pause lasts for 15 seconds, after which the cloud streaming session will disconnect if the Portal remains in rest mode. However, pausing during online multiplayer is not supported.

Other updates in this release comprise a queue system for when the streaming server reaches capacity, an inactivity notification, and tools for user feedback. Sony mentions that more features will be added based on user input.

The Cloud Streaming Beta is currently accessible to PlayStation Plus Premium members, enabling them to stream select PS5 games from the PS Plus Catalog on the PS Portal. Sony’s continuous refinement of the Portal as a dedicated cloud streaming device indicates ongoing improvements in the feature.

With cloud streaming becoming increasingly prevalent in the gaming world, the evolution of Sony’s offering alongside the PlayStation Portal device will be worth monitoring. The ability to take numerous screenshots while streaming to your Portal is certainly a welcome feature.
