In a statement made by the United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO), it was stated that heavily armed people hijacked a commercial ship near the town of Eyl yesterday.

Authorities launched an investigation into the incident.

The Malta-flagged commercial ship "Ruen", which was hijacked on December 15 in the Arabian Sea, was hijacked by pirates. It was announced that the commercial ship with a crew of 18 people was in the region of Puntland state off the coast of Somalia.
