Oregon Man Sentenced to Life in Federal Prison for Kidnapping and Assaulting Women
Negasi Zuberi, a 31-year-old man from Oregon, has been handed a life sentence in federal prison following his conviction on charges of kidnapping and sexually assaulting two women in separate incidents. The chilling crimes, which included locking one of the victims in a cinder block cell, shook the community to its core.
The sentencing took place in a federal court in Medford, as reported by Portland television station KGW. Zuberi’s trial concluded in October with a federal jury finding him guilty on multiple counts, including kidnapping, transportation for criminal sexual activity, illegal possession of a weapon as a felon, and an audacious attempt to break out of jail by attempting to smash through his cell window in August 2023.
During the emotional hearing, a brave victim voiced her sentiments, stating, “This is not a man who deserves to be around others. He brandished a badge, wielded a Taser, and restrained the victim with handcuffs and leg irons before transporting her to his residence in Klamath Falls, Oregon.
The horror intensified as Zuberi confined the woman in a chilling cinder block cell within his garage. Her desperate attempts to escape finally succeeded as she managed to break free, prompting Zuberi to flee. Law enforcement swiftly captured him in Reno, Nevada, putting an end to his reign of terror.
Further investigations revealed Zuberi’s involvement in another grim incident in May 2023, where he abducted a woman outside a Klamath Falls bar. Armed with a Taser, he forced her into his vehicle, subjected her to handcuffs, and subjected her to sexual assault.
