Opening Day Weather Forecast for MLB Teams

As the 2025 Major League Baseball season kicks off on Thursday, fans nationwide are eagerly preparing to head to the stadium for the first glimpse of their team following a dramatic offseason marked by free agency moves. But will the weather cooperate for the long-awaited “Play ball” call?

One of the prominent weather narratives of the season revolves around the Tampa Bay Rays, whose stadium suffered severe damage from Hurricane Milton in 2024, with winds exceeding 100 mph tearing the roof off the field. Currently undergoing repairs slated to last until the beginning of the 2026 season, the Rays will be hosting their home games for 2025 at Tampa’s George M. Steinbrenner Field, the New York Yankees’ Spring Training facility.

In response, MLB has modified the Rays’ schedule to minimize games during Florida’s rainy season. In a proactive move announced in November, MLB made schedule adjustments to maximize games played in optimal weather conditions. A total of 28 teams will participate in Opening Day, with the Rays and Colorado Rockies starting their season on Friday instead.

Here’s a detailed look at the weather forecasts for the outdoor Opening Day MLB matchups across the country:
