In April 2023, police responding to a 911 call found Rylaarsdam performing CPR on Dale, who was later declared brain dead and taken off life support. Two years later, Rylaarsdam was arrested and charged with murder. Dale had paid Rylaarsdam $11,000 for a fetish session that involved extreme activities leading to his death by asphyxiation. Rylaarsdam is currently held without bail and will appear in court in April.
