On This Date Record Late Spring Snow In New York City And The South

In some places, April, rather than a winter month, is typically the snowiest month of the year. But that doesn’t mean it hasn’t snowed elsewhere this late in spring.On April 25, 1875, 150 years ago today, New York City’s Central Park was blanketed by 3 inches of snow. This remains the city’s latest in spring measurable snowfall on record.April snow in the Big Apple isn’t just something from the 19th century. There have been 59 days since 1869 of accumulating April snow in New York. Four of those days happened this century, most recently a 5.5-inch blanket of wet snow on April 2, 2018.One of the nation’s weirdest late April snowstorms happened on April 25, 1910, 115 years ago today.Snow blanketed parts of Kentucky, Tennessee, Mississippi, Alabama, Georgia and North Carolina, areas more prone to outbreaks of severe thunderstorms in late April than winter storms.Nashville’s 1.5 inches of snow during this storm remains the city’s latest measurable snowfall, by far.
