Jalen Williams, a star forward in the NBA, and the Oklahoma City Thunder, known for their big spending, are close to finalizing a lucrative five-year supermax contract extension worth up to $287 million. According to ESPN, Williams’ deal was agreed upon on Thursday, capping off a busy week for the NBA champions. He becomes the third player from the Thunder’s championship team to join the quarter-billion dollar club in the last month.
NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander recently signed a four-year, $285 million deal, while the promising 2022 No. 2 overall pick, Chet Holmgren, agreed to a five-year, $250 million extension on the same day. When Williams’ contract is signed, owner Clay Bennett will be committed to a total of $822 million for the Thunder’s top three players.
Drafted 10 spots after Holmgren in the 2022 draft, Williams had a breakout season in 2024-25. He made the All-Star team, earned All-NBA honors, and was named to the NBA’s All-Defensive Team while playing a key role alongside Gilgeous-Alexander in leading Oklahoma City to their first NBA championship. During the Finals, Williams, at 24 years old, averaged 23.6 points per game, helping the Thunder secure the title. Despite playing through a wrist injury that required surgery, he maintained strong numbers throughout the playoffs with averages of 21.4 points, 5.5 rebounds, and 4.8 assists.
