Former U.S. Open champion Wyndham Clark has been barred from returning to Oakmont Country Club until he addresses the damage he caused to a locker and seeks counseling for his anger issues. A letter obtained by Golf Digest from club president John Lynch to Oakmont members outlined the incident during last month’s U.S. Open, where Clark vented his frustration by damaging his locker. Despite efforts to keep the incident private, a leaked photo went viral.
Lynch’s letter stated, “Following discussions with the USGA and the OCC Board, it has been decided that Mr. Clark will not have access to OCC property. Reinstatement will be subject to specific conditions, including covering damages, contributing to a charity chosen by the Board, and completing counseling or anger management sessions.”
Clark, who earned a 10-year exemption from his 2023 U.S. Open victory, is currently unable to access Oakmont until its next U.S. Open in 2033, given its rich history of hosting the tournament. In response to the incident, Clark expressed regret and a desire to move forward, acknowledging his mistake and offering to pay for the repairs.
Despite reaching a high ranking of No. 3 in the world last year, Clark has struggled in the 2025 PGA Tour season with only one top 10 finish and a decline in rankings. He remains focused on improving his performance and moving past the recent controversy.
