A group of thieves driven by greed has targeted 49 businesses throughout New York City, making off with ATMs and raking in tens of thousands of dollars, according to law enforcement officials. This crime spree unfolded over a three-month period, spanning across four boroughs – Manhattan, The Bronx, Brooklyn, and Queens – between September 19 and December 26.
The perpetrators, consisting of a trio, resorted to stealing cars to serve as their escape vehicles prior to each robbery, as confirmed by the police. Once inside the targeted establishments, they plundered ATMs and other valuables before fleeing in different vehicles, authorities revealed.
Surveillance footage captured two of the culprits dismantling an ATM inside a grocery store in Queens on December 23. The NYPD has urged the public to come forward with any information regarding the identities of these individuals involved in the widespread robbery scheme.
During the initial robberies in September, the group managed to get away with almost $40,000 in cash from the ATMs. However, the total sum stolen from all the ATMs remains undisclosed by the authorities.
In the early hours of December 23, surveillance cameras recorded two of the suspects tampering with an ATM inside a grocery store located at 75-10 31st Ave. in Jackson Heights, Queens. The footage was made public by the NYPD on a Friday.
Law enforcement officials are appealing to the community for assistance in identifying the three suspects linked to the citywide crime wave. As of now, no arrests have been made in connection to these incidents.
