Nvidia announced on Monday that it will begin manufacturing its artificial intelligence supercomputers in the United States for the first time. The tech company stated that it has secured over one million square feet of manufacturing space in Arizona to produce and test its specialized Blackwell chips, as well as AI supercomputers in Texas. This move is part of a significant investment that Nvidia estimates will generate up to half a trillion dollars in AI infrastructure over the next four years.
Founder of Nvidia, Jensen Huang, expressed in a statement, “The foundations of the world’s AI infrastructure are now being established in the United States for the very first time. By incorporating American manufacturing, we are better equipped to meet the soaring demand for AI chips and supercomputers, fortify our supply chain, and enhance our resilience.”
Nvidia’s decision comes amidst the Trump administration’s recent statements regarding tariff exemptions on electronic devices like smartphones and laptops, with plans to introduce new tariffs specifically targeting the semiconductor industry in the near future. The company has already initiated Blackwell chip production at chip plants in Phoenix operated by Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Co. Additionally, Nvidia is collaborating with manufacturers in Texas, such as Foxconn in Houston and Wistron in Dallas, to establish supercomputer production facilities.
These AI supercomputers are set to power AI factories, designated as specialized data centers dedicated to processing artificial intelligence tasks. The expansion of manufacturing operations in the U.S. is expected to create numerous job opportunities and drive substantial economic growth over the next few decades.
Nvidia predicts that mass production at its Arizona and Texas plants will scale up within the next 12-15 months. The company also plans to work with Taiwan-based companies SPIL and Amkor for packaging and testing operations in Arizona.
The White House praised Nvidia’s decision as a manifestation of the “Trump Effect,” citing the President’s emphasis on bolstering U.S.-based chip manufacturing. Trump’s administration has prioritized the resurgence of American manufacturing, resulting in substantial investments within the tech sector.
Earlier this year, Trump announced a joint venture involving OpenAI, Oracle, and SoftBank to invest up to $500 billion in AI infrastructure. This partnership, known as Stargate, aims to develop data centers and power generation facilities in Texas to further advance AI technologies. The initial investment is projected to reach $100 billion, with the potential to grow significantly in the future.
