A collision occurred between an oil tanker and a cargo vessel off the British coast in the North Sea on Monday, according to the U.K. coast guard. The incident was reported off the coast of East Yorkshire in England, with His Majesty’s Coastguard leading the national maritime emergency response. The alert was raised at 9:48 a.m. local time (5:48 a.m. ET). A coastguard rescue helicopter and lifeboats from various locations were dispatched to the scene, including Skegness, Bridlington, Maplethorpe, and Cleethorpes. The British government’s Marine and Coastguard Agency stated that an HM Coastguard aircraft and nearby vessels with firefighting capabilities were also mobilized.
