A 24-year-old man, identified only as Arshad by authorities, has been arrested in connection with the tragic discovery of the bodies of his mother and four sisters in a hotel room in Lucknow on Wednesday, January 1. The man confessed to the killings, which reportedly occurred during a dispute on New Year’s Eve.
The victims have been identified as the man’s sisters: Aliya, aged 9, Aqsa, aged 16, Rehmeen, aged 18, Alsiha, aged 19, and their mother. The bodies were found at Hotel Sharan Jeet, as confirmed by Deputy Police Commissioner Raveena Tyagi.
“The local police responded to the scene, where they discovered the bodies of five individuals,” Tyagi stated to Asian News International (ANI). “Arshad, a 24-year-old resident of Agra, was apprehended in connection with the incident.”
During initial questioning, Arshad admitted to the crime, citing a family dispute as the motive for his actions. The police are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter, including interviewing hotel staff and examining the victims’ injuries.
Joint Commissioner of Police Babloo Kumar provided additional details to reporters, stating, “Inquiry is also being conducted with nearby hotel staff.” He added, “Regarding the bodies recovered, some show signs of injuries — on the wrist of one, on the neck of another. Based on these marks, statements from witnesses, and the post-mortem report, we are conducting a detailed investigation into the matter.”
According to reports, the family had checked into the hotel on December 30 to celebrate the New Year. Tragically, it is alleged that Arshad served his family food and drinks laced with an unspecified drug before carrying out the heinous act.
The authorities are diligently investigating the case to ascertain all the facts surrounding this disturbing incident. “An investigation is underway,” Kumar emphasized in a video released by the Press Trust of India. “There are some open wounds on the body. We are finding out everything and will inform.”
