The Central Committee of the National People's Congress appointed Admiral Dong, who served as Navy Commander, as the country's new Defense Minister.
Chinese Defense Minister Li was dismissed on October 24 after he did not take part in public events for a long time for unknown reasons. Since no appointment was made to replace Li, the post of Minister of Defense remained vacant for a long time.
