A mother from Alabama had an unexpected reaction upon seeing her newborn’s size. Pamela Mann welcomed her baby girl, Paris Halo, who weighed 13 lbs. 4 oz., two weeks ahead of schedule at Grandview Medical Center in Birmingham. Despite previous indications from ultrasound scans that the baby would be large, Mann was still taken aback by the actual size of her newborn.
The 31-year-old delivery driver described the reactions of those present in the delivery room as amazed by the baby’s size, as Paris Halo was originally due on March 20. Paris Halo’s weight was double that of an average newborn, according to the World Health Organization. Mann had been advised to undergo a C-section, which had been planned for Tuesday following a doctor’s appointment about a month prior.
Initially estimated to be around 8 lbs., the baby’s actual weight far exceeded expectations. Mann shared her concerns during the delivery, recounting the moment the doctor and nurses expressed surprise at the baby’s size. Overwhelmed by the situation, Mann became emotional upon realizing the magnitude of her newborn’s size.
Despite the initial shock, Mann is now embracing the experience, while Paris Halo is expected to be discharged from the hospital’s NICU soon. Mann expressed gratitude for the care her baby is receiving and noted that Paris Halo is doing well.
