The viewership for the Ravens-Texans game saw a significant increase thanks to the Beyoncé Bowl – Beyoncé’s highly anticipated halftime performance. Netflix announced on Thursday that over 27 million viewers tuned in for the event.
The NFL expressed its excitement over the Christmas Day viewership numbers. Hans Schroeder, the NFL’s executive vice president of media distribution, stated in a Netflix press release, “Fans from all 50 states and over 200 countries worldwide witnessed some of the league’s top talents along with an unforgettable performance by Beyoncé on a historic day for the NFL.”
Netflix disclosed that they have a three-season partnership with the NFL to broadcast Christmas games. While the holiday football matchups, which were regular-season games, achieved record-breaking streaming numbers, they fell short of being the most-watched sporting event on Netflix recently. Last month, the platform aired a boxing match featuring the legendary 58-year-old champion Mike Tyson and Jake Paul, drawing in over 60 million viewers.
Comparing the Christmas Day viewership to the Super Bowl, it is evident that the championship game remains the pinnacle of American sports television. Last season’s Super Bowl, featuring the Kansas City Chiefs and San Francisco 49ers, attracted a staggering 123.4 million viewers across CBS, the NFL Network, Univision, Paramount+, NFL+, and ViX, a Spanish-language streaming service.
CBS proudly declared the game as the most-watched telecast in history, surpassing the 2023 Super Bowl between the Chiefs and Philadelphia Eagles, which garnered 115 million total viewers.
