Celebrity author Neil Gaiman refutes sexual abuse allegations with evidence
Author Neil Gaiman has responded to accusations made by his former babysitter with evidence to dispute her claims. Gaiman, known for his work on “The Sandman”, has called the allegations false and produced WhatsApp messages that he says prove his innocence.
Gaiman and his estranged wife, Amanda Palmer, were sued last month for alleged sexual assault and trafficking by Scarlett Pavlovich. Pavlovich had previously shared her allegations on a podcast and in a feature story in New York magazine.
In a court declaration, Gaiman stated that he and Pavlovich had engaged in consensual activity, including bathing together, but denied the more serious accusations of rape and abuse. He described Pavlovich as a “fantasist” who fabricated the abuse claims.
Gaiman provided messages between himself and Pavlovich as evidence of their consensual encounters. The messages show Pavlovich expressing gratitude and desire for Gaiman, and later denying accusations of rape after Gaiman confronted her about them.
Gaiman believes Pavlovich may have been influenced by others to make false accusations against him. He stated that the police investigation in New Zealand, where the alleged incidents took place, was closed without charges.
Despite the legal battle and negative publicity, Gaiman maintains his innocence and is taking steps to dismiss the lawsuit against him. He previously addressed the allegations on his personal blog, emphasizing that he has never engaged in non-consensual acts but acknowledging his past mistakes in relationships.
The case continues to unfold as Gaiman works to clear his name and restore his reputation amid the controversy.
The case was brought before the U.S. District Court in Wisconsin, wherein they contended that the accusations were unfounded and that a U.S. court lacked jurisdiction over matters emanating from New Zealand.
