Mystery Surrounds Disappearance of University Student in Dominican Republic

Authorities have confirmed that a University of Pittsburgh student, Sudiksha Konanki, who went missing in the Dominican Republic last week, is believed to have drowned. Konanki, a legal permanent resident of the United States and an Indian citizen, was part of a group of six female students traveling in Punta Cana, with two of them being residents of Loudoun County, Virginia.

According to Dominican officials, on March 5, Konanki was walking on the beach with the group before she is presumed to have drowned in the ocean. After most of the group returned to the hotel, she remained with one person on the beach. The two went for a swim and encountered difficulties due to a large wave, as stated in a police report from the Dominican Republic.

The last sighting of Konanki on security camera footage was at around 4:50 a.m. on March 6. The investigation continues as the fate of the missing student remains shrouded in mystery.
