A significant disruption has been causing trouble for a multitude of major tech services, particularly Microsoft 365, as thousands of its customers reported encountering issues with services such as Outlook on a recent Saturday. Through a series of posts on the social platform X, the company informed users that it was actively investigating the problem affecting various Microsoft 365 services. According to the company’s statements published on a dedicated page addressing incidents related to its office software programs, Microsoft acknowledged that a potential cause of impact had been identified and that they had taken action by reverting the suspected code to mitigate the impact.
Later in the day, Microsoft provided an update indicating that their monitoring showed signs of improvement as a majority of the affected services were in the process of recovering following the implementation of their corrective measures. Before this update, social media platforms were buzzing with users reporting their inability to access their Outlook email accounts. The outage reports amassed by Downdetector, a platform that tracks service interruptions, indicated a significant number of complaints from users during this time.
The outage reports for Microsoft 365, with Outlook being a notable focus, peaked around 4 p.m. Eastern Standard Time before gradually subsiding. Subsequently, a number of users began reporting that their access was being restored to the previously disrupted services. Interestingly, earlier in the week, the popular communications platform Slack also faced a similar outage, impacting thousands of its users and rendering the service temporarily inaccessible.
