Mysterious Departure at Leading AI Startup

(Reuters) – In a startling development, it was revealed that John Schulman, a co-founder of OpenAI who had only recently joined Anthropic, has made the decision to depart from his position at the cutting-edge artificial intelligence startup. The announcement was made late on Wednesday through a statement issued by the company.

Jared Kaplan, Anthropic’s esteemed chief science officer, expressed his sentiments regarding Schulman’s departure, stating, “We are saddened by John’s departure, but we wholeheartedly support his choice to explore new opportunities and extend our sincerest well wishes for his future endeavors.” This message was conveyed in an email correspondence to Reuters.

Schulman had made the transition to Anthropic after parting ways with OpenAI back in August with the intention of deepening his involvement in AI alignment and reengaging in hands-on technical pursuits. Anthropic, a significant contender in the AI foundation model sector, has seen its annual revenue surge to an impressive $875 million. The company offers access to its models both directly and through various third-party cloud services, including the likes of Amazon Web Services.

Initial reports regarding Schulman’s exit from the AI firm were first disclosed by The Information.
