“Concerns of Police Violence Rise as Trial Comes to an End”
A high-ranking detective is urging the public to assist in combating the illegal drug trade following the murder of a gang member known as a “runner.” Detective Inspector Justine Jenkins emphasized the role of illicit drugs in perpetuating violence and exploitation in Bedfordshire. Her remarks come in the wake of the convictions of two men involved in the killing of 37-year-old Dean Fountaine, a drug runner from Leighton Buzzard.
Peter Janoski, 44, was found guilty of murder, while Dylan Myrie, 21, was convicted of manslaughter after a trial at Luton Crown Court. The police revealed that Janoski and Myrie conspired to rob Mr. Fountaine, described as a runner for a rival drug gang, before fatally stabbing him in Ashton Road, Luton, in June 2023. The sentencing for the two perpetrators is scheduled for June 20.
Following the trial, Detective Inspector Jenkins, from the major crime unit covering Bedfordshire, Cambridgeshire, and Hertfordshire, commented on the complexity of the case. She reiterated the link between the illegal drug trade and increased violence and exploitation, emphasizing the importance of community support in preventing such tragedies.
