A man accused of murdering an 86-year-old widow allegedly took money from her handbag and spent it at an ex-servicemen’s club the day following her death, as detailed in a trial. Una Crown was discovered lifeless at her residence in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire, back in 2013, having suffered four stab wounds and a slashed throat. David Newton, aged 70 and a neighbor of Mrs. Crown, faced charges in 2024 after forensic analysis identified DNA matching his genetic profile on nail clippings obtained from the victim in 2013. During the proceedings, Prosecutor John Price KC highlighted the perceived peculiarity that Mr. Newton, who refutes the accusations of murder, allegedly had the financial means to frequent the club on two occasions within a single day. The trial is ongoing at Cambridge Crown Court.
