Mufasa’s Return The Lion King Roars Onto Disney+!

If you missed the opportunity to see “Mufasa: The Lion King” in theaters during the holidays, you will soon have the chance to stream it exclusively on Disney+ starting March 26. This Disney blockbuster earned an impressive $709 million at the global box office. The exclusive streaming date for “Mufasa” was unveiled by People magazine.

Directed by Barry Jenkins, known for his work on “Moonlight” and “If Beale Street Could Talk,” “Mufasa: The Lion King” narrates the journey of a young lion cub named Mufasa who transforms into the leader of the Pride Lands. Alongside his friend, the lion Taka, Mufasa embarks on a perilous journey that tests their familial bond.

This film serves as a prequel to the 2019 remake of “The Lion King,” which was a digital recreation of the beloved 1994 animated classic and grossed over a billion dollars worldwide. The star-studded voice cast of “Mufasa” includes Aaron Pierre, Kelvin Harrison Jr., Tiffany Boone, Kagiso Lediga, Preston Nyman, Blue Ivy Carter, Mads Mikkelsen, Seth Rogen, Billy Eichner, Donald Glover, and Beyoncé Knowles-Carter.

Lin-Manuel Miranda crafted original songs for this project, such as “I Always Wanted a Brother,” “Milele,” “We Go Together,” “Tell Me It’s You,” “Brother Betrayed,” and “Bye Bye,” replacing Elton John and Tim Rice.

In his positive review for Variety, chief film critic Peter Debruge praised the film as an emotionally satisfying addition to the Disney canon, serving as a prequel to one of the studio’s most cherished franchises.

“Mufasa: The Lion King” joins Disney’s catalog of live-action adaptations of animated classics, including recent releases like “The Little Mermaid,” “Peter Pan & Wendy,” and “Aladdin.”
