“75-Year-Old Mother Arrested in 55-Year-Old Cold Case”
A woman in Louisiana, now 75 years old, has been charged with the murder of her baby who died nearly 55 years ago. Alice Rollinson Bunch Idlett was arrested and charged with second-degree murder in connection to the death of her 16-month-old son, Earl Dwayne Bunch III, back in 1970. Originally, she claimed that the baby fell out of his crib and sustained a fatal injury, but a recent cold-case investigation determined it to be a homicide.
The baby, Earl, was found to have bruises, bite marks, and burn marks on his body. Disturbing letters written by Idlett to her then-husband revealed her hateful feelings towards their son, expressing wishes for his death. Despite denying any wrongdoing, evidence suggested that the injuries were not consistent with a fall from a crib.
Idlett is currently being held in the Calcasieu Parish Correctional Center on a $950,000 bond, facing the charge of second-degree murder after a Grand Jury indictment prompted by the 2022 investigation.
