Missing Mom Returns Home After 60 Years!

Audrey Backeberg, a married mother of two children, went missing in 1962 from her home in Reedsburg, Wisconsin. A babysitter later claimed that she and Backeberg hitchhiked to Madison and then took a bus to Indianapolis. After more than six decades, authorities have confirmed that she has been found alive and well, with no foul play suspected.

The Sauk County Sheriff’s Office recently announced the resolution of the missing persons case involving Backeberg. She was 20 years old at the time of her disappearance and had left home to pick up her paycheck from the woolen mill where she worked. Her husband, Ronald, contacted her relatives when she did not return home.

Following her disappearance, a 14-year-old babysitter revealed that she and Backeberg had traveled to Indianapolis, where Backeberg was last seen near a bus stop. The babysitter later mentioned that Backeberg had consumed pills mixed in a can of Coke before the journey. Despite ongoing investigations and leads over the years, her whereabouts remained unknown.

Recently, the case was reviewed by a detective, leading to a breakthrough. Through meticulous investigative work, including re-examining evidence and interviewing witnesses, authorities confirmed that Backeberg is alive and well and currently living out of state. It was also revealed that Backeberg’s marriage was troubled, with allegations of abuse reported before her disappearance.

Now, authorities believe that Backeberg chose to disappear, and there was no criminal activity involved in her case.
