“The Missed Opportunity: Will Forte Regrets Declining Val Kilmer’s Proposal”

Will Forte recently shared a heartfelt essay on Vulture reflecting on his friendship with the late actor Val Kilmer, who passed away at 65 on April 1. The two actors bonded while working together on Forte’s 2010 comedy film “MacGruber,” a spinoff from Forte’s popular SNL sketch. Despite their differences, Forte and Kilmer remained close even after the movie wrapped.

Forte opened up about a time when Kilmer stayed at his home for over two months, leading to discussions about teaming up on the reality show “The Amazing Race.” Excited about the idea, the pair almost pursued it before their agents advised against it. Looking back, Forte regrets not taking the chance to compete on the show with Kilmer.

Their friendship blossomed over shared interests, like watching “The Amazing Race” and Kilmer’s fondness for Tina Fey’s series “30 Rock.” Forte fondly remembered a time when they went for a run together, Kilmer sporting a linen suit.

As Forte reminisced about their time together, he expressed sorrow over the missed opportunities for collaboration and cherished memories with Kilmer.

In his essay, he reflected on his interactions with Francis Ford Coppola, recalling, “He was always talking about doing something for Coppola or someone like that. Somehow, we managed to convince him to join MacGruber, but I wasn’t sure if I’d have the chance to collaborate with him again. So, I happily settled for being his roommate.” For more details, check out the original article on People’s website.
