Over the weekend, officials reported that 32 individuals were rescued from a sinking yacht near Miami Beach. The rescue operation took place on Saturday around 5 p.m. close to Flagler Monument Island, as confirmed by the U.S. Coast Guard. This small man-made island is home to a 110-foot-tall obelisk monument dedicated to Henry Flagler, a prominent developer along Florida’s east coast. Flagler Monument Island is situated near the exclusive Hibiscus, Star, and Palm islands, where numerous well-known celebrities reside.
Photos released by the Coast Guard depict over a dozen individuals aboard the 63-foot vessel, some of whom were wearing life jackets. Other images show the yacht partially submerged, with its bow protruding above the waterline. Various agencies, including those from Miami Beach, Miami, the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, and several “Good Samaritan” boaters, assisted in the rescue efforts alongside the Coast Guard.
Reports and witness testimonies referred to the vessel as a “Lamborghini yacht,” although the specific model remains unconfirmed, as reported by CBS Miami, a news partner of the Miami Herald. Yachts Worldwide, a social media account dedicated to yachting, identified the boat as a Lamborghini Tecnomar worth $4 million in a recent video showcasing the rescue operation.
Fortunately, no injuries were reported, and efforts were underway to salvage the yacht, with the investigation being led by the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission.
