Michigan Judges Reject Walmart Shoplifters’ Car Washing Plan!

A judge in Michigan made an attempt to require Walmart shoplifters to work off their debt by washing cars, but was prevented by a higher-ranking judge, as per a report. Judge Jerry Clothier from Genesee County’s 67th District Court proposed a unique solution for around 100 shoplifters who were caught stealing from a local Walmart – enlisting them to wash cars for free. The plan, named ‘Walmart Washes’, had the support of store managers at the Grand Blanc Township Walmart, and was a punishment devised by the newly elected judge. Clothier mentioned that not everyone who steals is malicious, and sometimes they are just facing tough times. However, he emphasized that there are repercussions for breaking the law. Even though officials at Walmart headquarters approved the idea, it was decided that the car wash couldn’t take place on store property. Unfortunately, the innovative plan was rejected by a more senior judge. Chief Judge William Crawford II overturned Clothier’s proposal, stating that approval should have been sought beforehand for such an unconventional punishment. Consequently, the car wash initiative, ‘Walmart Washes’, was cancelled. Despite the setback, Clothier expressed his determination to find creative solutions for the issue and continued to assign community service as a penalty for those caught stealing at the superstore.
