A judge in Michigan tried to have Walmart shoplifters pay their debt by washing cars, but a higher-ranking judge stopped the plan. Judge Jerry Clothier of Genesee County’s 67th District Court had a unique idea for up to 100 shoplifters caught stealing from a local Walmart – having them wash cars for free. The plan, known as ‘Walmart Washes,’ was endorsed by store managers but ultimately rejected by Chief Judge William Crawford II. Clothier, who was elected in January, expressed frustration at the decision and vowed to find other creative solutions for dealing with theft offenders. Despite the setback, Clothier will continue to impose community service on those caught stealing at the store.
