There were commentators on the video expressing concerns about the rhino appearing too skinny as its ribs were visible. However, upon examination of images of greater one-horned rhinos, it is evident that they naturally have skin folds similar to the rhino in the video. Without additional information, it seems that this rhino is in good condition.
Has Anyone Tried to Domesticate a Rhino?
Unlike animals that have been domesticated over generations, such as cows, rhinos are wild creatures with no history of human domestication. Domestication involves altering an animal through selective breeding programs across successive generations. On the other hand, taming does not influence an animal’s genetic makeup but focuses solely on modifying the behavior of individual animals.
Rhinos, along with other wild animals, can be tamed to some extent, but they remain inherently unpredictable and pose a danger if kept as pets. While it is possible to acclimate an animal to human presence, unlike traditional pets and livestock, it will always retain its wild instincts. This is a primary reason for numerous unfortunate incidents involving individuals who thought exotic animals like monkeys or tigers were tame, only to be injured or killed.
While historical myths suggest the existence of war rhinos trained to battle alongside ancient warriors, there is no concrete evidence supporting the existence of such creatures.
So What is Going on in the Video?
Although the exact circumstances depicted in the video remain uncertain, it is conceivable that the rhino may have strayed into the village in search of food. It is plausible that the men shown are guiding the rhino out of the urban area and back to its natural habitat in the wild. This scenario would be ideal, considering that rhinos are wildlife and are not suited to a life as someone’s pet.
