Man Indicted in Fatal Shooting at Florida Birthday Party Sparks Mystery

A grand jury has indicted Tyler Hollins, 20, for the first-degree murder of 3-year-old Rylo Yancy, who tragically lost his life during a drive-by shooting at a birthday party in Florida last summer. The incident, which occurred on July 21, 2024, at a park in Fort Lauderdale, has left authorities puzzled by the motives behind the shooting.

According to the Broward State Attorney’s Office, Hollins, who was already in police custody for unrelated charges, is believed to have had a dispute with individuals at the birthday party attended by Yancy, ultimately leading to the fatal shooting. Fort Lauderdale Police Department Sgt. Donald Geiger stated that Yancy was innocently playing on a park slide when he was struck by gunfire.

Following the shooting, Yancy was rushed to Broward Health Medical Center with life-threatening injuries but sadly did not survive. In memory of the young victim, a Spiderman-themed celebration of life was held at the Anthony R. Manuel Funeral Home in Hollywood, Florida.

While additional suspects have been identified, detectives are appealing to the public for any information that may assist in solving the case. Witnesses or individuals with relevant details are encouraged to contact the Fort Lauderdale Police Department Homicide Tipline or Detective Juan Rodriguez directly. Tips can also be submitted anonymously to Broward County Crime Stoppers, with the FBI offering a $10,000 reward for credible information.
