Man Charged with Manslaughter After Student, 20, Died in Alleged Off-Campus Fratern!

The Baton Rouge Police Department provided an update on the arrest of a suspect on March 7, 2025. A man has been charged with manslaughter after voluntarily surrendering following the tragic death of Caleb Wilson at a fraternity event off-campus last month. The police department announced during a news conference on Friday, March 7, that Caleb McCray had been taken into custody and charged with criminal hazing and manslaughter. McCray, a 23-year-old graduate of Southern University and a member of Omega Psi Phi fraternity, posted bond and was released on the same day. Chief TJ Morse stated that more arrests are expected as warrants are being prepared for two additional suspects. Wilson passed away due to injuries sustained during a hazing incident where he was punched multiple times in the chest. McCray is alleged to have punched Wilson four times during the incident. The investigation involves interviews with over a dozen individuals and multiple search warrants. McCray’s lawyer maintains his client’s innocence and urges the public to reserve judgment until all evidence is presented. The family of the deceased seeks the truth surrounding the circumstances of Wilson’s passing to prevent similar tragedies.

The university pledges full cooperation with law enforcement in the ongoing investigation, emphasizing the fraternity’s suspension of activities and the temporary halt of new membership intake across campus organizations. In a recent statement to local media, Wilson’s family shared their gratitude for the outpouring of kindness and compassion, describing Caleb as a bright, talented young man with a love for life, music, and academics. The void left by his passing is profound, but the family finds comfort in the support received.
