The suspect remained incarcerated in St. Helena Parish on Saturday, and a spokesperson for the sheriff’s office stated that she was unaware of whether he had appeared before a judge or secured legal representation. According to the parish Sheriff’s Office, all three individuals were deceased by the time deputies reached the scene. The suspect and his son had been residing with Powell, as confirmed by cousin Deondra Robertson-Warner, who informed WBRZ-TV that prior to the fatal stabbings, family members had taken him to a medical facility after he began experiencing auditory hallucinations.
Despite requests from relatives indicating his aggressive behavior, the hospital administered a medication different from his usual prescription and declined to admit him for inpatient psychiatric care, as recounted by Robertson-Warner. A family member disclosed that Jones was undergoing treatment for schizophrenia and began hearing voices the day prior to the tragic incident. The suspect was subsequently apprehended on three charges of first-degree murder following the events of Thursday.
A Gofundme page has been set up to assist with the aftermath of the devastating loss. “No one survived in that household due to the shortcomings of the mental health system,” expressed Robertson-Warner to WAFB-TV. “If he had been institutionalized, he would have been in the appropriate setting today, and my other loved ones would still be alive.”
